In my opinion, St Thomas is a great school. We have tons of extracurricular activities to get students involved with the school and many sports teams. There is also all the yearly trips: Boston, Stratford, Europe, Morocco, etc. Our teachers are amazing, as well. Some even make the classes fun. But, there can be improvements. For example, the dress code. I know everyone brings this is up, a lot. But I really believe we should change some of the rules. When it is the summer, I think we should be allowed to wear shorts that don't have to be past our fingertips. It is extremely difficult for girls to find something to wear when it's 40 degrees Celsius. Also, I don't find it extremely fair when we come to class right on the bell or a little past it and our teachers ask "Why are you late?". We have 5 minutes to get from classes that are sometimes on opposite ends of the school and our hallways are absolutely crazy. There are no words to explain how difficult it is to move in the crowds. On top of that, there are always slow walkers who I get caught behind or Sec 1s who rush by and lacerate me.

DeleteSomething great about Saint-Thomas is how many opportunities it provides. Whether it's being in a band, being on student council or participating in a school sport their is always something there for you to try. It's actually surprising. We have SO many different activities you can participate in. Did you know this school has a golf and tennis team? I sure didn't. You can get involved in a million things that you might not have had the chance to outside of school and that is great.

DeleteWhat I find great about St. Thomas is it's acceptance, and all of the programs, activities and clubs we offer. There's so much our school has to offer for everyone. There's sports clubs, bands, GSA, and so many others. It's a great way to make friends with people with similar interests and get involved with school life. Some things I think could be improved are the start times. Teens need more sleep, and with sports, homework, and other commitments, it's hard to keep a consistent sleeping habits. I think many, many people can agree with me on that. Also the dress code which I find completely sexist and unfair because, I'm sorry, but stores don't manufacture shorts that are considered "school appropriate", and on those days when it's 35 degrees in school, I'd rather not pass out from heat exhaustion.

DeleteI can totally see your point with the whole dress code argument. I think that the school or school board needs to keeps in mind the weather and how it is affecting us. We go to an awesome school yet we are in this building for most of the day and in the summer at the beginning and end of the year when it is scorching hot outside we have to go to class. We have to go into these small inclosed spaces, where the air doesn't really circulate and there is NO AC! So I agree with you because in our situation, as students who need to follow the dress code, it is pretty uncomfortable and annoying. Great blog!

DeleteThere are a lot of things that make St-Thomas a great school. We have so many sports teams which are so much fun to play on. We also have school trips like Europe, Boston, Stratford and New York even day field trips within the year. There is also so many clubs to join and other activities. I think St-Thomas is such a great school because we have so many extra activities and privileges. Our school is also very nice and we include everybody. Everyone at this school is so friendly and accepting. For an improvement, I think that we should get some air conditioning installed for the health of all the students. Overall, St-Thomas is a great school will lots of activities and friendly people.

DeleteTheir are a lot of things that make st Thomas a great school. For example we have numerous different sports teams and different clubs like glee club or robotics. We also have numerous different field trips that are a lot of fun. One thing that the school could improve on is start times most schools now have a day of their week where school starts later and all their classes are a little shorter and i think we need this at ours. Plus i think our school could use some air conditioning, during the summer it gets very hot in class and it is hard to concentrate. Over all st tho mas is a great school tough.
ReplyDeleteEven though St. Thomas may seem incredibly dull now that we’re used to everything that goes on here, it really is as great school. I’m thinking back to this time in grade seven, when I was still marvelling over just how large the school was, and how much stuff went on. There really are tons of opportunities. With so many interesting clubs, teams, and groups to join, there's at least one for every interest. There are trips for every grade level, with destinations across three continents. But, there are also some not-so-great things here at St. Thomas. Like everyone else is saying, our lack of air conditioning is definitely a problem: it affects the learning conditions drastically by causing students to focus on the heat rather than their schoolwork. Another obvious problem is the dress code. It is sexist and ridiculous, targeting girls and teaching us that our education is less important than a boy’s. I honestly could probably rant about the dress code for hours, so I’m going to stop myself before I even start.

DeleteSt.Thomas is an amazing high school and one thing that is great about St.T is our school spirit. This school wouldn't be as great without the people in it. For example, the teachers. They have to put up with us students (not saying that we are bad or anything, just that we can sometimes be a little bit difficult) all day long and at the end of the day when everyone is cranky and exhausted these teachers still persevere, never give up and are there to help. They come back day after day to school with amazing attitudes and spirit.
ReplyDeleteThere is also a group of students and teacher who are especially enthusiastic about our school. I'm talking about student counsel. They are the ones who organize activities where we can express our school spirit, like the danses or Terry Fox day. There are also volunteers who not only participate in creating fun things to go to at our school but also help spread our spirit. I don't really know what to improve on just that I am proud to go to this exciting and positive thinking environment, known to us as our family and known to everyone else as St.Thomas High School.
I really love St-Thomas. The academics are great, the IB program is awesome and so are most of the teachers. I love all the clubs, sports and people. Most of the time, I would say that there is nothing that I would change about the school. But reading everybody else’s blogs have me triggered. Everybody has great arguments about the AC, dress code and the five minute time to get to class. I also would LOVE it if the staff would take kids more seriously when they don’t succeed with certain teachers. If the issue often comes up, kids are complaining and the class average is below 75? That’s just plain stupid. Although we can’t go running around the school firing teachers, I definetly think that staff should listen to the kid’s opinions instead of pushing more homework onto us so that we get distracted from the issue.

DeleteThe school is made great by it having *mostly* good and friendly people, an abundance of extracurricular activities and school spirit. The people here are mostly friendly, you might find, although you can never meet them all. We have every kind of extracurricular activity you can think of, from sports to music and bands to debate team to - stained glass? There is something for *almost* everyone to enjoy and there are even some clubs that aren’t even ever announced but they’re always there. The level of school spirit at St. Thomas is through the roof and the atmosphere. We’ve got so many planned events such as Pride Week, school dances, Summer and Winter Carnivals, and more. Each of these allows the students to appreciate their school and the people around them even more. And finally, the majority of the teachers are friendly and helpful.
ReplyDeleteAs an improvement I am going to have to agree that we need to get air conditioning in most if not all of the classrooms. Especially during heat waves like there were this year we really need to keep the place cool so that we can work without worrying about whether or not we are going to pass out and get a detention or fail the test. I can’t think of too many other improvements right now, but how about putting the lockers closer to where the majority of the grade’s classes will be. Because some people in our grade have more classes in the 80’s hallways than they do in the 1/200’s. Perhaps this is how it already is, but I don’t know, I don’t work for the school. One last improvement is that the guys’ bathrooms really need better sinks because the ones we have suck and it would be so much better if we had taps, for example. Also the hand dryers are almost all if not all broken and only one washroom has a paper towel dispenser. School please fix.

I think that this school is great because there are a lot of sports to choose from. It is great because there are a lot of club that you can join. I think that St-Thomas is a great school because everyone at this school has spirit. In my opinion I think that the best thing about this school is are carnivals I think that they are really fun. Even though this school is great there are something that I would like to change like having air conditioning because it gets really hot at the begin and end of the school year.
I think that St-Thomas is a great school. I think this because we have so many activities that promote friendship and it is a great way to 1 make new friends and 2 to enhance your social skills. This school has so much school spirit with all the activities we do like the carnivals, also that especially the sec 5's really help the younger kids become comfortable with each other.

DeleteIn my personal opinion I believe that St Thomas is a great school and I am glad that I am a student attending this school. For example, most of the students at our school are very nice and so are the teachers. I also like the fact that there are a variety of clubs depending on what you are interesting in doing. I love the fact that there are bouncers because they give the school so much school spirit and just make us feel comfortable with the school. Some recommendations to improve is to definitely get air conditioning because in the summer, it gets super hot and most students aren't able to concentrate in the heat unless we wear light clothes, which aren't allowed. So I think that would be a helpful thing to add but other than that I believe that this school is great.

DeleteI believe that st-Thomas is a great school but like everything else in the world there somethings to improve. I feel that our open house does a great job of showcasing the great things that go on at our out school as well as the amount of school spirit the students have. we do a great job of showing this but from my experience some of the teachers that are not at the open house are not there for a reason not saying that all the teachers are bad but yes there is a few that should not be there and they are the ones to ruin the first year of school. otherwise yes ST-Thomas is a great school and we show that very clearly.
ReplyDeleteI think that something great about our school is how there isn't a lot of bullying. Personally there were more problems and more mean people in elementary than now. I think that something that could be improved or changed is our dress code. An example are off the shoulder tops. How are we able to wear a tank top with two fingers length but not an off the shoulder top. It's only a couple of centimetres difference. But that's not the problem. The problem is that they are teaching girls that we can't wear something because it bothers guys, they should be teaching guys to concentrate less on us because if girls can control themselves I'm sure boys can too. Something st Thomas should be proud of is their pride. Since sec.1 I've realized that our school loves to help everyone in any possible way. A lot of people have been saying that air conditioning should be improved and I also agree with that, we can all agree that it is way too hot in class.

DeleteSomething that makes St-Thomas a good school is definitely the school spirit. We are one of the only schools I’ve heard of that has so many carnival days and dances and stuff throughout the year. In our grade at least, I also find that everyone is friendly with each other for the most part, and there isn’t really ever anyone left out. Some places that St-Thomas could improve on are the absolutely irrelevant and demeaning dress code and I think the physical school could also use some renovations or at least a fresh coat of paint.

DeleteSt-Thomas is already such an amazing school and it would be hard to make it a lot better. Some of the many things that makes St-Thomas such an amazing school is all the after school and in school activities. There are so many to choose from and I wish I could be on most of them but I still have to keep up with my grades. Another thing is the dances and carnavals. Some are better than others but they are all really fun. There are so many more things that I can list but it would be way to long of a blog. However there are some things that need to be touched up on a little. Like how there is no A/C. Also even though the dances are awesome the first 2 aren't the best. Other than that there is not really much that needs improving.
ReplyDeleteThe things that make St-Thomas high school a great school are our vast variety of extra-curricular activities. For example, we have jazz band, debate club, robotics club and many more. Because we have such a variety of activities, it makes it easy for any student to find out what they love. They can learn and progress with their talents and hobbies. To improve our school and make it the best that it can be, we can try to incorporate more field trips in our school, for certain classes. Field trips help us learn more since we tend be more involved in the activity. Field trips will help to ensure that we will be having fun at the same time.
ReplyDeleteI love going to Saint Thomas and even though not many people from my elementary ended up coming here I’m still glad I chose to attend this school. I think it’s an amazing school with some pretty spectacular teachers that do so much for the students! Saint Thomas isn’t exactly the best looking one though, but they are working on it. We even got a new auditorium! I honestly don’t enjoy the new paint job though, it makes the school seem quite dark and kind of unpleasant. It also looks unfinished since not all the floors have been redone. I also hate ManageBac. Yes, there are more features on it than Google Classroom but we don’t need to use them for what we do. Besides, we already use Google Docs and its other features, it’s simple and easy to use and doesn’t require you to download everything to submit it. Those are the two main things that bother me but I would still choose this school over any other.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that I decided to attend St-Thomas, there are so many things I love about this school. We have great pride and that brings everyone together. Another big thing I love and that St-Thomas does best are dances because they are on another level and so many people from other schools also attend. Carnivals are also lots of fun. The only things that could be improved would be physical school improvements like adding air conditioning or renovating the school but that would be expensive and we only need air conditions for the first weeks of schools.
ReplyDeleteThe greatest thing about St.Thomas would be the acceptance and love shown by everyone in the school. It gives the feeling of being in home and enables you to be yourself. There aren't many things the school could improve upon as it already excels in education and extra activities it presents to the students. The one and only thing I could recommend is starting school a little later and ending a little later to compensate. As waking up at 6-7 can be a pain to some people and could give them lack of sleep

DeleteStThomas is good for its sports, big events, organisation, and its sense of community. I haven't been in this school long enough to know what its good at but overall the kids are good and come from good families so they were raised well. I'm not sure what I would change if I had the chance. I would get air conditioning in the summer for sure.
