The city of New Orleans was recently in the news for all the WRONG reasons.
A restaurant in the city is doing an experiment where they would CHARGE customers
based on their race (skin colour). White customers PAY MORE than black customers.
Do you think this is a smart experiment?
What do you think they are trying to find out?
Would you go to this restaurant?

I do not know what to think about this experiment. It is very special and i am not quit sure why you would do this or what you are trying to figure out while doing this. I would go to this restaurant to see why they would be conducting a experiment like this an basing it on your race. For me it seems very stupid and pointless to do.

DeleteI don't think this is a smart thing to do. We've already learned from history and common sense to not judge people on their race. Doesn't matter if they are black or white. I feel like maybe they are trying to make the white people realize what is it like for them to be segregated. If this is true, I understand their point, but this is not the way to do it. They are stooping to the other people's level.

Deletei think they're trying to just a reaction for people, their might not even be a real reason for it. Or maybe they're doing it to see how black people and white people react if the past would've been reversed? I wouldn't go personally, 1 because I'd be charged more so why would I want to go there, and 2 because I honestly don't care. If you want to conduct a human experiment and try to relive the past, go ahead, but i'm gonna stay out of it and live in the present.

DeleteI honestly don't know where to start with this. This restaurant has very much confused me. We are always talking about equal rights and equality in general and this sort of contradicts that. I know this isn’t the worst thing that has ever happened but it's not a good thing either. I would not eat at this restaurant as I don't want to support what they are doing. The amount of money paid for a meal should not depend on my skin color.

DeleteI honestly had no idea this was happening! I’m really confused and baffled right now. I have no idea what the restaurant is trying to find in this experiment. I really don’t think this is smart. We’ve come so far with equality ( not far enough but you know what I mean ). What they might be trying to say is that black customers earn less so it makes sense for them to pay less?!?! It isn’t true but maybe they think it is1?1!1?! I’m open to their explanation on why they did this. I’m 100% sure I would not go to this restaurant.

DeleteI just think that by doing this "experiment" the restaurant is creating lots of problems for it's self. We are now considering ourselves to be in the modern age where we have evolved so much with equality and now this reastaurant is trying to bring it all back by, what I think is, proving a point. That point being empathy for the way black people were treated and maybe still being treated in the past and present. I don't see the advantages that the restaurant would be getting be doing this experiment. I would not go to that restaurant because I do not want to be apart of what they are trying to say. I think that we just need to move on and learn about our mistakes from the past and not repeat them in the future.

DeleteGreat my blog deleted I love when that happens. Anyways to summarize up what I had said was that basically I think whoever thought of this idea is absolutely insane. They shouldn't be comparing races as we humans are all equal no matter what, like come on its 2018. They were trying to show that white people should pay more, since they get a higher amount than people of colour. This is just wrong and is not something I would want to participate in because it is not fair to anyone.
ReplyDeleteI personally don't believe that this is a smart idea since everyone should be treated equally. I do not believe what people in other blogs are saying about "what is in the past deserves to be left in the past". The past always needs to be taken into consideration, in order to further better off the future. In my opinion, the social experiment that has taken place does not deserve to exist, since if we want to have equality, we need to promote equality. I believe that they are trying to show how it was when whites and blacks were segregated, but I don't believe that this social experiment should have been done. Therefore, I would never go to the restaurant.

Black people are treated unfairly because of their skin colour very often and this restaurant maybe wanted to show how that feels to white people. Honestly this is pretty stupid because then white people going to this restaurant aren’t gonna be happy and it’s just gonna start a fight. If you want to end racism there are many other ways that you can do it other than this.
ReplyDeleteI actually have no idea what's going on in New Orleans. I'm going to look it up. I couldn't find anything. I'll just go off of assumed knowledge. I suppose that this restaurant is trying to show white people what it feels like to be oppressed. Realistically, white people will never truly know what it's like to be a victim of racism, but I guess people can raise awareness however they like. I would probably just go to like a Mc Do's instead because ya girl is on a budget
ReplyDeleteI think that this is absolutely terrible! I can't even imagine what is going on in the minds of the owners. I don't think that this expirament is smart at all. This is just racist. That restaurant should be put on strike or shut down. I don't think that it is polite, it's rude to people, and it makes them feel bad or hurt. I kno that white people have never been as badly or at all exposed to racism but this is still bad. I don't even like the term "blacks", I will say coloured. I think that they are trying to see if they won't mind, to see if the customers will be fine. The white people would complain about the prices and they will ask how come to it's not the same as the coloured families. I would never go to a restaurant like this, because it's racist, it's rude and maybe their food just isn't good.

DeleteI have had much difficulty trying to articulate my feelings properly while responding to this prompt. This idea is most definitely very thought-provoking, and I believe it is both good and bad. It is a great experiment, and the reasoning behind it is valid, but it could go wrong in that people who believe in reverse oppression may take it as proof that racism against white people exists. This experiment is not about treating white people badly because they are white, but because they need to know where people of colour are coming from when they say racism still exists today.

DeleteI don’t know what to think of this radical social experiment. It really is nothing I’ve ever heard of. I don’t think it’s a particularly smart experiment, since all it would be doing is giving a little sense of what african-american people had to go through fifty or sixty years ago, and probably like 99.5% of the people who lived back in that time have either gotten over it, died, don’t live in New Orleans, or would simply go to a different restaurant. I don’t think the experiment had much relevance in America today. I wouldn’t visit the restaurant, because why spend more when you can walk down the street and pay less.

I don’t see this as an experiment but instead them being completes asses towards white people. Because of them we’ll be expecting a lot more race tensions. ReplyDeleteI think there's usually a gap between how much people get payed and not how much they pay. I get they’re trying to point out these things still happen and all but it might not be a very good business practice either. Unfortunately, racism is still present in today’s society and although it isn’t as common I just think there are better ways to highlight the issue.

I dont even understand what they are trying to do, like what is this experiment going to prove, that they could lose a lot of customers very quickly and gain other customers very quickly. They would be driving away white people and attracting black people. I would never go to this restaurant.
