Blog 33 - Monday, February 5, 2018

There will only be ONE (1) blog this week!

Your BLOG topic this week is FREE CHOICE!  You could blog about whatever it is you want, except what you've already blogged about!  You could go on a rant or you could simply blog about something important to you.

Be creative and write about something you feel important or something you would like to tell your audience. Write about something you are passionate about.

You must remember your audience.  It is not simply me (Mr. Katz) reading this blog!
If you will be ranting about a certain individual, you need to leave their name out of this.  You could give them a pseudonym (example: Mr. Ed) or simply leave their name as anonymous.
Make sure your language is appropriate.  Do not go on swearing tangents and try not to blog about blogs :)

  1. Last year I drew this epic dragon and it was the greatest thing that I have ever drawn yet. So my New Years resolution was to put my dragon in the agenda. Now the school is calling for people's drawings to be put in the agenda for next year and I am really nervous. I want to add my drawing to the agenda because I wanted to be apart of the school, more involved. I am already apart of one extracurricular activity but that is it. During the year book, I wasn't in any photo other than my student photo. If I get my dragon in the agenda then there will be proof other than my student photo that I was at St. Thomas this year.

  2. Since the olympics are starting this week it seems to be a large topic of conversation. A question that always comes with that conversation is what sport one watches. Like any other sport on television I don't tend to watch them. I will watch the opening ceremony but nothing else for the winter olympics. The only sport I will religiously watch in the olympics is pole vaulting. Of course if it’s on I will watch anything but I find it gets tedious after a while.

  3. today I will be talking about things I love. I love my dog. literally if my dog didn't exist I would die. same thing for my phone. I don't understand how some people don't need or want a phone. for me, it is my way of communication and I honestly would be lost without my phone. lastly, I will be talking about mcdonalds. mcdonalds is my favourite place to eat. I love their burgers, chicken nuggets and their smoothies. yummy

  4. I wasn’t too sure what to write about... But then, as I was typing this my lip literally LATCHED onto my braces and cut me again. So, braces will be my topic. I would not be surprised if someone told me that 75% of grade nine kids have braces this year. A lot of teens are really self-conscious about their braces, but I don’t think they should be! When I first got my braces put on in arc 1, I was so self-conscious. But, my mom then told me that braces are not something I should be ashamed about! Braces show others that you care about your appearance and that you take pride in if. So much, that you are willing to wear braces for a short period of time to benifit you later in life. Having braces is a good thing, and it took me a long time to realize that.

  5. The one place in the world that I've always wanted to go is Paris, France. I don't really have a specific reason for wanting to go to this place. Ever since I was little, I've always been drawn there. Sadly, I have never been there. But I have been to other places in Europe! Whenever I mention that I want to go to Paris, many people think it's a terrible idea. They remind me of all the terrorists attacks and so on and say that they would never go there. But the thing is, terrorists attacks can happen anywhere. You could be walking to school one day and get shot in the head. I'm not going to let that scare me from going places. My point is that no one should live their life in fear. You won't get anywhere.

  7. i'm gonna talk about how i'm so happy that this week is gonna be so short! I'm so sick of school now and i just don't want to wake up early anymore. we have only two periods today and we have a ped day on Friday which is so great. We have only had 5 day weeks for the past many months, it's so exhausting. March break is soon though so yay.

  8. I find that time has been passing really quickly recently. When I was in elementary school one day felt like a whole adventure and a week lasted forever, the when I went to St-Thomas time started going faster and a day would pass quickly now that we are in secondary three a whole week will pass by in a flash. It feels like it was Christmas break yesterday. I don't know if this is just me because I hear people talking about how slow the day is going. I wonder if anyone else is feeling the same things as me?

    1. The concept of time freaks me out so I try not to think about it. Great blog, though!

    2. Time is but a concept. Humans invented time to help them organize themselves according to it. It's also possible to see back in time. For example, whenever you look at a distant star, say one that's 100 light-years away, you're seeing the star as it was 100 years ago. It could have exploded 70 years ago, but we'd wouldn't know for another 30 years.

  9. I really hate to be a hater, but I think that I will rant for this week's blog. Something that literally just floors me with emotions is all of the stigmas present around mental health. Not only are people terrified to talk about such a "taboo" subject, but consequently, nobody actually knows anything about mental health. This vicious cycle makes life about x5376287264 more difficult for someone struggling with mental illness because not only are there very few people around them who know what they are going through or are able to help, but a mentally unwell person themselves is highly unlikely to know or understand what's going on upstairs. This breaks my heart. Stop the stigma!

  10. perfect, today just happened to be a huge snow storm. I love snow so much it is the greatest thing that god ever created. This winter is amazing because of the amount of snow we are getting and I couldn't be more happy. the past couple of years there has been barely any snow and that was a pretty shitty but this year it seems to me like it snowing all the time and it totally awesome.

  11. Playing for the St Thomas hockey team is so much fun. First of all you get to miss lots of school to play hockey. You also get to play a sport that you love with your friends. It makes it so much more fun to do it with your close friends. I find my friends and I have a better chemistry than my other hockey teammates. Our coaches Mr Faubert and Mr Miller are also very fun This season, we are doing pretty well and playoffs are approaching next week. I hope we do well in playoffs.

  13. Since I’m in a bit of a pinch and don’t have much time to think of something all that valuable, I’ve decided to take this blog to complain about how stressful this and next week has been and will be. This week, I’ve had to deal with a massive amount of math homework, (which I’m sure some of us can relate to) after school activities, reading assignments, reflections, and band practice, which has been CANCELLED due to the WEATHER. We’ve had only ONE practice that was an hour and a half long, and we only went through THREE out of the TEN songs we’re supposed to play THIS WEEKEND. I’m mostly saddened and further stressed by this fact, but I suppose I might not have finished my reflections today if it had gone on. I have a test tomorrow in French class, and I’ve got to redo some of my science notes. We’re receiving a new interdisciplinary project, like, tomorrow, and from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening, I’m not home, and I’ll be in a place without internet, meaning there is literally no way for me to work on some of the homework I’ll be needing to do over the weekend. UGH, I can’t wait until these next two weeks are over, I hope I get through.

  14. My elective for secondary 3 is journalism. I chose journalism because it has always been something of interest to me since I was little girl. I would always pretend to be a news reporter, and walk around my house asking my family questions, in order to understand things. I would always grab my mothers camera and video tape while I was covering my discoveries. Since I am a journalism student, I chose to join the yearbook team. So, I am currently working on the yearbook for the 2017-2018 year. I am so happy that I got the opportunity to work on the yearbook as I had always wanted to contribute to it.

  15. I'm going to be talking about my experoences with my twin since we had to write stories in blogger.com and two of them included her. The two stories that involved her are two out of the ten most memorable incidents, tomorrow we will be reading them in class so everyone will hear atleast one of them unless I have to read the one about my first day at high school which is pretty boring. Those moments with my sister were scary at the time but now it's just funny every time I think about it. One of the stories were about how we could have set our house on fire and the other was how she almost drowned me (I almost drowned her too but whatever). Every time I think of a story with my sister it's just good or funny memories that come to mind. They are what made us well, us and I would never take them back even if they were petrifying at the time.

  16. Ill be talking about net neutrality and the importance of it and to give some clear info about it and clear some misconceptions on it. In fox news some people are trying to turn it into a republican vs democrat type of scenario however I'll say this right now,the argument about companies competing completely fails when there's monopoly in different parts in the world. It gives them the ability to raise the prices, and unlike other products where people can go on strike, boycott the internet cannot be boycott as it is technically a necessity and so it can't be boycott. The idea of it increasing innovation is also complete bull as all the popular sites will be high speed, meanwhile any new websites created will be as slow as a sloth. If free websites takes forever to load, no one will check it out vs instant websites. basically if you started first in anything, you'll have monopoly in it. Whether its a streaming websites like Netflix or you tube. You can forget about any other competitions poping up, giving good offers as it'll be unprofitable. The other belief is that everything will be cheaper. I will concede and say yes, it could be cheaper but that means that if you work in a wifi company, there'll be a dent in your paycheck as nothing comes for free or in this case cheap. which takes the whole purpose of making the poor have more access or better lives , Also poor zones tend to have only one wifi provider available in america so they can increase the price higher to milk more money and if a competition does pop up, by that time they'll have more money and can lower their price to unprofitable levels making the completion leave and then returning the price to the original expensive one.

  17. Since I didn't really have anything smart to talk about, I am going to rant about my mom. So basically I was scrolling through Insta and I see this picture of these acrylic nails and they were GORGEOUS. They weren't that long, the colour was perfect, so I got the inspiration to get the exact same thing. A few days later I show my mom these nails, and she's like "Jess, you're only 14". I was like mommm they're nails, what does that have to do with my age???! She said that they would damage my nails and that is true, but nails do grow which means I will get healthy nails once the acrylics fall off. Anyways I got pretty pissed because I've never had fake nails before and I just wanted to try it out. I also wanted to get them because my nails were already so damaged and short so I wanted them to look good for a bridal shower that is coming up. But anywho my mom says MAYBE to them. So she makes an appointment for me, and I got excited because now I will finally be able to beg her to get them for me. But once we got to the salon, she second guesses herself and says no, especially because the price is twice as much than a regular manicure. So we had an argument for about 20 minutes IN the salon and the lady was looking at us like we were weirdos. But then we finally decided to get shellac which wasn't what I really wanted but I went with it anyways since it will strengthen my nails and prevent them from breaking, so I was like why not. While I was choosing the colours, I found this really nice nude colour. It wasn't too dark, well so it appeared. So she started applying the colour and it started to look purple, and I was like is it going to look like that? She's like nah it will change colours. BUT IT DIDNT so now im even MORE pissed 1) because I didn't get the nails I wanted and 2) I didnt get the colour I wanted. Ya that was basically my weekend :))

  18. I am kinda worried about french class for second term because I forgot to do this reading thing and I think it was worth a lot. Hopefully my other stuff holds up my mark. Other classes I’m not worried because Ive been stable. I need to start getting up earlier because I’m always rushing in the morning. I always feel like I’m going to miss my bus but for the most part make it on. I need to get to bed earlier even though I go to bed pretty early already.
