With hurricane season upon us (hurricane Harvey and now hurricane Irma), many people are trying to save some of their most important possessions; they are hoping these possessions do not get destroyed by the hurricane!

What one possession would leave you devastated if it was lost or destroyed?  Why is it so significant to you? Explain.

  2. My prized possession would be my iPad. I chose my iPad because I use it a lot and the things that are on my iPad are really important to me. For example, on my iPad I bought some instrumental music. I love music both instrumental and music with words so my instrumentals are very important to me. Another reason why is because I have downloaded books onto my iPad. I love my books as much as my music.

  3. The one possession that would make me devastated if it were destroyed would be my dog, Bella. She is 7 years old and has been part of this family since she was born. Bella has been through a lot with us. She is the only dog in her litter that has something wrong with her. She had arthritis in her elbow and had her leg amputated a couple of years ago. It was a very difficult and emotional decision to make. It was either amputation or put her down (death). My family and I love Bella with all our hearts. She can be a pain in the butt when she fools around, but I don't know what I would do if she wasn't part of my life.

    3. I can totally relate. I had a golden retriever and he was the most loving and compassionate dog I have ever known. My family and I got him when I was very young so I grew up with him just like you grew up with Bella. Sadly my dog passed away a year and a half ago. He got diagnosed with cancer and had it really bad. The last few months were sad because he was going threw a lot, taking a bunch of meds. So I understand what it was like when your dog was having a tough time but I will always love my golden as you love yours.

  4. If a Hurricane came and I had to leave my home I would be devastated if one of my photos was destroyed. More specifically a photo of my grandmother, my mother and me. This photo means the world to me because it represents 3 different generations who have so much love for each other. It also shows the unity the women/girls have in my family. The picture was taken on June 15th 2003 so I was just a baby but I can tell we were having a blast all together and that just makes the picture even more special. Whenever I'm having a bad day I look at this picture and it instantly makes me feel better as I know I am loved. It’s in my room on my mirror so that I can see it every day. That’s why I would be devastated if this picture was destroyed.

  5. If a hurricane came and destroyed my house, the one thing I would wanna save is my dog Luna. The reason I would wanna save my dog Luna is because I love her so much I would give up everything for her. The reason I would choose my dog instead of something like my phone is because, a phone can be replaced but I would not be able to replace my dog.

    2. I agree, If I had to choose an item or save a living being, i'd save the living being as people aren't as easily replaced than items

  6. If a hurricane were to come and destroy my house, the one thing I would save would be my cat, Lucy. My family and I have had her since she was born when we got her off a of a friend. She was able to fit in my hands!! I've had so many great memories with her and she's super friendly and always cheers me up when I'm having a bad day. I love her so much, and I would be totally devastated if I lost her.

    2. I totally agree with you, if I had a cat they'd definitely be the thing I'd save! Your cat is honestly the cutest :)

  7. If I were affected by a hurricane, I would probably take my phone because I don't really have a pet or anything else I feel strongly attached to. Another reason for taking my phone is that there are several things saved on there that i haven't saved any where else yet and that would be very unfortunate to lose such as images and videos that I have to remind me of fun memories!

    1. Good idea! I think it's important to hold on to memories and mementos, especially in the wake of devastation.

  8. I suppose pets aren’t really “possessions” per say, but the first and probably only thing i would save from a hypothetical hurricane would be my cat, Oscar. Oscar is like my favourite guy ever. He’s 18 years old, paranoid, deaf and arthritic, and he’s basically always been that way. I still love him to death though. If I was only able to save one thing, I wouldn’t even hesitate before choosing him because I value Oscar about a million times more than any inanimate possession of mine, even though he runs away from me a lot ever since he lost his hearing. Maybe that would actually make it difficult to save him...anyways, Oscar is head-butting my ankles right now and 60 words went by far more quickly than I had anticipated so I guess I’ll end here.

  9. If there was a hurricane nearby, the first thing that i would grab would be my grandmothers jewelry. I would be so hurt if they got destroyed because she passed a few weeks ago and that is one of the things that reminds me of her everyday. I would occasionally wear some of her necklaces or rings to remind myself that she is always there for me and to remember how great of a person she was. Also, most things could be replaced such as phones, ipads or any other device. But you could never replace something that used to belong to someone who you cared about. Lets say if i were to buy a new ring identical to hers, it wouldn't be the same because the whole point of keeping something from someone who has passed is to remember them, so it wouldn't be the same. So yes, i would definitely be devastated if i lost those in a hurricane.

    2. My condolences and I totally agree with you because you really can't replace something that is personally valuable and means so much especially when that person has passed away. Great blog!

  10. Since we're aloud to write about our pets I'm going to write about mine because I would be miserable if she didn't make it out before the hurricane came. I have a dog and her name's Bijou. She's a German-Shepherd/Husky mix. If a hurricane was close I would definitely think about her first, I would make sure to grab her collar too just in case she got lost. She means so much to me and I don't know what I would do if something were to happen to her because everyday after school I'm so happy to see her. Thinking about her not being there after a long day of school hurts me so much because I've had her since she was six weeks old. She's only two years old and she has many more years to live. If my sister, little brother or I were to be sad Bijou would know it and she would do tricks to cheer us up. In conclusion it would just leave me heartbroken if she wasn't saved.

  11. One thing that I would try and save would be the red dump truck that was my great grandfathers. I would be so devastated if it was destroyed because I keep some of the gifts and things my great grandparents and my grandparents have giving me over the years that they have been with me. My great grandfather lived in England and he died before I could meet him, but I got to met my great grandmother who was at the time, just had turned 100 years old! When my dad brought it home from England I was I didn't know what it was until he told me. It's all scratched up due to its age, but it is still in good shape other than that. It is just a great keepsake of my ancestors, and I would be so mad and devastated if it got damaged or destroyed.

  12. If there was a hurricane nearby, the first thing that i would grab would be my hockey equipment. I love my hockey equipment very much. I use every single day of the week. It means a lot to me because I got it for my birthday from all my family members, plus it cost a lot of money. My hockey equipment it also irreplaceable, it is one of a kind. I had it specially made for me to match my team colors. Finally my equipment would be the first object i grab because hockey is my favorite sport and I enjoy doing it very much.

  13. If we were in a hurricane right now the first thing that I would grab would be my stuffed animal cat and my blanket. I know it's a bit weird but those are the things I value the most because I have had them my entire life and to leave them to get wrecked in a hurricane would be something that I would never think about doing because I love them to much.

    2. I know what you mean. The things that you've had all your life and things that were given to you by people who are no longer here, are irreplaceable and have a lot of sentimental attachment. We want to keep the things that make us feel good.

  14. If I were ever in a hurricane, the first thing I would think of saving would definitely be my phone. At first, I tried to come up with a deeper, more meaningful answer, but I decided it's probably better to just be honest. I would take my phone because I have a lot of photographs, videos, and other things that I haven't backed up anywhere. I kept a journal on my phone all last year, so that is something I don't want to lose, and a lot of the photographs on my phone remind me of really great times I've had. So maybe a cell phone seems like a really shallow thing to save, but it's really not the actual phone I’d be saving, it's the things I have on it.

  15. This was a very hard question to ask but after thinking for a while I think it would disappoint me most if I lost my signed hockey jersey. This jersey is so important to me because I got it when I was very young and have kept it clean and safe since. I waited hours to get it signed by P.K. Subban when I was little and meeting him was very exciting for me. This jersey has a lot of monetary value and and it brings back lots of memories for me so I would definitely be devastated I it was destroyed. I would hate to have all of those childhood memories lost because of this jersey being lost or destroyed.

  16. If a Hurricane came and I had to leave my house I would be devastated if my phone was lost or destroyed because I do not have any animals or anything more important to me then my phone. My phone is my most important possession to me because I have everything on it and because my grandmother bought is for me. It is also the most important possession of mine because everything I have can be replace except my phone because is have all of pictures and memories in it and I would be devastated if it was lost or destroyed.

  17. If a hurricane were heading our way, I would certainly save our puppy, Yuki. She’s only been with us for about four months, but we all love her very much, at least when she’s not busy tearing up our shoes and nibbling our fingers. She is a very friendly, very playful Japanese Spitz puppy and we would all be devastated to lose her, because when we were getting her we knew we were making a commitment to last up to 16 years. If we lost her in a hurricane, we would all be devastated, because she means a lot to us.

  18. If I could only save one object in a case as intense as this, I feel like if I didn't save my dog I would sound kind of inhuman so I'd save him. All jokes aside I couldn't leave a bro hanging to deal with something that devastating even if I tried. My dog is probably my only friend so I think it's pretty important to keep something like that around. Jokes on this topic because I keep my phone on me at all times anyways so I basically cheat the system regardless of the rules.

  20. If I was placed into the position of those being hit by these hurricanes, I would definetly save all my animals. Since I have five pets at home, it would be inhumane to choose only one. I have three cats, a dog and a hamster. My three cats are named Cinnamon, Zippy and Tiffany. My dog is named Daisy and my hamster Bernie. Of course I named him Bernie after Bernie Sanders, former US presidential candidate. They mean so much to me, and I would be devastated to lose any one them. I'm extremely upset about how so many people who are victims of these natural disasters are just leaving their animals behind. Animals mean so much to me, it's really difficult to even imagine my own pets being put into that situation.

  21. The one possession that I would be devastated by if it were destroyed would be my photo album. My photo album contains meaningful images of my early childhood and key events that occurred throughout my life. I wouldn't be able to cope if any of my photos were lost or destroyed. I would lose all of the memories that provided me joy and happiness. My life just wouldn't be the same without it.

    1. Looking back at old photos is always a wonderful experience because you get to look back and reflect on how much you've grown! Losing your photo album would be terrible as it would be harder to share memories and see how much you've changed.

  22. The most important possession would be my moms laptop as it contains photos of my family and it has the programming i did when I took the programming class during summer. If I were to lose the laptop I would lose all the notes and things I did with programming ( Literally woke up at 7am and went there and returned at 4pm for a week) and the photos are irreplaceable as the laptop has the only photos of my family in iran ( without them I might forget them as I haven't seem some of them for a long time).
losing both photos that remind me of my family in iran and losing my notes for programming would be worst possession I could lose because of a hurricane.

  23. I would consider my most valued possession to be my laptop. I love drawing and have spent hours upon hours working on drawings on my laptop that I would hate to lose. I do not own a drawing tablet and use a mouse which makes it even more difficult, but also makes me a little more proud of my work. I also have some photos from my camera on my laptop that I can't replace.
